Health and Human Services Within the White House
This week I found an article
titled, President Trump names Eric Hargan
acting HHS secretary, from Fierce Healthcare. I found it an interesting subject
to look at health management within the White House. It is crucial to make sure
there is a strong, highly educated, person running such an important
department. This was a very recent event from last week, so this is the first
time I have learned anything about it.
Mr. Hargans previous experience consumed of his service in the Bush administration
and serving on President Trumps HHS transition team. He was supported with
seven democrats, one independent and all Republicans. I thought this was
interesting because democrats and republicans have different views regarding
many health topics such as the ACA. I believe this is a good thing because
people of all political parties must believe Mr. Hargan has the peoples best interest
in mind. Mr. Hargan will hopefully create new positive energy in the White House
that will better off the department of Health and Human Services. It was also
said that Mr. Hargan has a strong commitment to public service so he has true experience
with the overall population. This is great to hear because he should have some
level of expertise in knowing what the public needs.
After
reading this article, I want to further explore health management roles with in
the White House. These leaders must all be highly skilled and talented in their
work. I am sure they have done various interesting projects to get where they
are. That said, I think it would be a great learning opportunity to follow
leaders in the White House.

Healthcare policy is quite a hot topic and a great field to get in to. I am sure as you take your policy class with Prof. Aytur you will see the many influences policy has in this field. As a student and as a professional is it important to stay up to date on not only who is in office but also their stance on pressing matters in healthcare policy. As a student I wish I had looked more into this with the people in office. Take the time to review Mr. Hargan’s stance on coverage, access, and quality initiatives (and more) when you can!
ReplyDeleteI echo Meghan's comment - health policy is complex. You might consider following the Health Affairs blog if it interests you.
ReplyDeleteI think you are ahead of many students in healthcare management as you have already recognized the importance of staying aware of the healthcare policy changes within our government.
